1999 Parliament Opening Procession
Gardens to District Six

We joined together in the colorful opening procession through the streets of Cape Town--from the Company's Garden down Government Avenue to Darling Street and on to District Six.

Costumes, banners, and wonderful cultural variety made for a moving experience for marchers and spectators alike.

District Six Ceremony 2:00- 3:00 P

Parade to District Six, an area symbolic of apartheid-era dispossession and of the human spirit. There, we blessed the land and the people who lived on it.

Opening Plenary Session 2:00-4-30 P

We walked down the hill to the Good Hope Centre. As we entered the arena, we heard the 1999 Parliament drum. It was a thrilling drumming exercise to open the Plenary.
